Sound precedes language. Image precedes category. What comes before taxonomy is what this work returns to. To listen is to come to body, to the vastness of consciousness. To attentively connect beyond language.

Sound vision composer.
Multi-disciplinary artist.

Hadis Fard aka XEL is an Iranian/Canadian expansive human being from Lur ancestral lineage based out of so-called Vancouver. She is a sound vision composer and multi-disciplinary artist. Hadis uses sound, visual art, data, code, and poetry to bridge art × tech × eco and creates multi-sensory & immersive performances and installations. Hadis has had a non-linear path in her creative journey. She holds a master of computer science, bachelor of engineering, continuing studies in fine arts, and has studied sound composition independently with various mentors over the years.

Hadis' muses and explorations are rooted in eco-feminine, mythology, decolonization, geo-psychology, interspecies dialogue, and collective consciousness.

Her compositions are a melding of organic and synthetic textures, field recordings, analog synthesis, polyrhythmic density, sub-bass frequencies that viscerally push and pull the audience; her works shift between dense visceral intensity and intentional, organic minimalism.

She has performed and exhibited in various festivals and venues locally and internationally, including ArsElectronica (NYC), National Music Centre (Calgary), MUTEK.JP (Tokyo), Times Square (NYC), TheaterLab (NYC), Vancouver New Music, Vancouver International Jazz Festival, and others. Her works have been acknowledged by the Canada Council for the Arts and published in the IEEE journal. In over fifteen years working with and developing technological mediums, she has worked with large names in tech and now selectively collaborates to re-purpose the tech. She welcomes co-creation and collaboration in sound, visual arts, creative technology, and envisioning social change.

Hadis' purpose and community service is to live by earth-oriented practices within communities and bring the integrated authentic voice in areas less heard. She finds community in diversity.

Living and creating on the unceded ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
